Tom,
Thanks for the kudos on my Landy. Just so you know I have been a past owner of no fewer than three VW buses, two of which were Westfalias. (Yes, I do have hippie trends!) Actually the Westy was great when I was a bicycle racer, no hotel fees and I always had a dressing room at the race.
There is a great sense of security to sleeping up off the ground, and the Land Rover gets me into places where that is needed. The tent in the picture is an inexpensive one, I wanted to see if I would like it up there while driving and if my wife would like sleeping up there - she loves it and will have me "pop it up" sometimes just to "camp" on our farm.
Driving is another thing... I will eventually be moving it to the back, cutting down the rack so it lowers it about six inches, and adding an enclosure around the bottom for a changing area. I hope that moving it back and dropping it will help the feel on and off the road. If a Land Rover is a brick mine is a brick with a layer of mortar on top!
Inside of the Land Rover will get a fold down dining table for those times when it rains. I have to work on the design as my first did not work.
I have to say that is what I really like about a vintage Land Rover, the versatility - or maybe I should say "change-ability." When I first got this one I really wanted to keep it original as possible. Two things changed that, the very ugly red interior the PO added and the fact that I want to go more places and do more things with it.
It is still a work in progress. But I am getting close to the end. (HA!) I would like to put a 200 TDI engine in it, but that would mean upgrading the rest of the drive train.
Thanks again for the inclusion! I am humbled!
