Schroedering up a weekend Sep 17, 2007

So, Kim and I are looking for a new vehicle that will replace the departed Saab 92x. Kim and I have settled on a new Xterra as making the most sense for us. It’s 4wd, reasonably priced, available in some cool colors and tough. It’s also available with some hefty discounts on leftover 2007s. The problem is that all of the good ones are kind of hard to find at this point. Want an automatic 2wd? Plenty of them. Want a 4wd with the 6-speed? there’s one in FL and hopefully it’ll be mine tomorrow. But..that’s getting ahead of myself.

Thursday night I got an email from a dealership near my brother’s in Connecticut..the Desert Stone 6-speed 4wd X model (X = stripper, kind of fitting) was now on super sale for something like 19,700…brand new. Deal. I called my insurance agent, I booked a flight for Friday (it was under $300 to Hartford) and flew out of Daytona at around 1. By the time I had landed in Atlanta, I had a voicemail from the salesman saying that the deal wasn’t going to happen on that Saturday as they had to FedEx the paperwork back and forth from FL and it would be more like Wednesday..which is unworkable when I’m trying to fly up and drive back in one weekend. So..I had to then buy another $300 ticket to get back here.

So, after that $600 “real life experience” I decided to just drive down to my local Nissan dealer and work with him on a dealer trade. Of course, the vehicle is $4000 more, but at least it’s got every option known to man crammed in it. Big stereo too. Not my style, but what are you going to do. On the plus side, it is the Offroad model, complete with Bilsteins, skidplates and other goodies.

I’m crossing my fingers that this deal doesn’t get too monkeyed up.
