Saving porous wheels

Old alloy wheels can become porous, allowing air to seep out even if the tires and valve stems become porous. The fine folks at Wheels America have a DIY solution that usually works:

Sand the wheel well, then put a good etching primer on the aluminum, followed by a high build primer, then some topcoat or clearcoat to seal it all in. Think of it like a good thick paint job to seal the aluminum.
